The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this chapter, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

Fire lane, for purposes of engineering design and construction, means a way which provides secondary access to a building to be used primarily for emergency vehicles.

Ownership means ownership of land which shall be deemed to extend from the centerline of any abutting alley to and including the curb and gutter area of any abutting street of any such lot or tract of land.

Private street, for purposes of engineering design and construction, means every street, roadway, or way not dedicated to public use.

Public street, for purposes of engineering design and construction, shall mean every street, roadway, or way dedicated for the use of the public.

Roadway Design and Construction Specifications means the most recent version of the rules and regulations titled Roadway Design & Construction Specifications, adopted by the city engineer pursuant to authority granted in section 126-36, and promulgated pursuant to section 2-3 of this Code.

Street shall mean any vehicular right-of-way that provides access to more than one lot. Streets do not include driveways within the parking lots of single-family attached residential, multiple-family residential, commercial, or industrial sites. (Code 1979, § 34-1; Ord.
