(a) The public defender commission shall be a seven-member commission. Four of the members of the commission shall be attorneys admitted to practice law in this state, and three shall be residents of the city not admitted to practice law in this state. In making appointments to the commission, the city council shall not consider sex, race, and ethnic background. No member of the commission shall be, at the time of or during the term of appointment, a judge, prosecutor, public defender, or employee of a law enforcement agency.

(b) Those members of the commission who are attorneys need not be residents of the City.

(c) Each member of the commission may be removed from such position by the city council with or without cause. (Code 1979, § 25-61; Ord. No. 2005-12, § 87, 4-11-2005)
