The city council shall appoint the members of the building code and contractors appeals and standards board hereinafter referred to as the building code board who shall consist of a maximum of six members, each of whom shall have been residents and registered electors of the city for at least one year immediately preceding their appointment. Whenever the word "member" is used throughout this article or in article III of chapter 22, it shall mean a non-ex officio member described herein unless otherwise stated or unless the context requires otherwise. Each member shall serve for an overlapping term of three years. The members may be chosen from the following categories with the following qualifications:

(1) Not more than two members who are civic minded residents of the city whose occupations are not related to building construction shall be appointed during the same term;

(2) One member who can qualify for a commercial building contractor license and shall have a minimum of five years' experience in building construction;

(3) One member who is a professional engineer experienced in structural design, registered to practice in the state;

(4) One member who is a professional architect registered to practice in the state; and

(5) One member who is a professional engineer registered to practice in the state, experienced in electrical design. (Ord. No. 2017-55, § 1, 10-30-2017; Ord. No. 2006-78, § 1(Exh. A), 1-8-2007)
