(a) The city manager, individuals appointed or employed as the directors of the various departments, either in existence or created, the municipal judges, the city attorney and assistants, and the court administrator, before entering their offices or employment of the City, shall take an oath of office administered in an open council meeting, such oath to read substantially as follows:

"Do you, having been duly appointed by the (city council or city manager) as _______ of the City of Aurora, Colorado, solemnly swear or affirm that you will faithfully and impartially administer the affairs of such office in accordance with the Constitution of the United States of America, the State of Colorado, and the ordinances of the City of Aurora, to the best of your judgment and ability, so help you God."

(b) Subsection (a) of this section shall not be construed to require that an oath of office be administered to any special prosecutor or other special counsel retained by the city attorney. The authority of such counsel to represent the city shall not be questioned and shall not be grounds for dismissal or abatement of proceedings prosecuted or defended by such counsel except on the complaint of the city council or the city attorney.
