(a) Police officers shall be vested with the usual powers and authority of police officers and shall further have any and all powers granted to peace officers, as set forth in state statutes.

(b) Police officers shall have the power and authority and it shall be their duty to serve and execute warrants and other processes for the summoning, apprehension, and commitment of any person charged with a violation of any section of this Code.
