(a) The director of public works, or his or her designee, is hereby authorized to designate and post a school zones on those streets or highways, or portions thereof which he or she may deem necessary or appropriate.

(1) The designation and posting of school zones within the city shall be done in coordination with the chief of police or his or her designee.

(b) The director of public works, or his or her designee, is hereby authorized to designate and post as work zones on those streets or highways, or portions thereof which he or she may deem necessary or appropriate.

(1) Any work zone must include a highway maintenance, repair, or construction area.

(2) The designation and posting of work zones within the city shall be done in coordination with the chief of police or his or her designee.

(c) In addition to any normal or scheduled fines and costs imposed by the municipal court for any traffic violation, the municipal court shall impose an additional fine amount of not less than $100.00 for each traffic violation which occurs within a posted school or work zone. Such additional fines, and any surcharges and costs imposed, may not be suspended by the court, except, in no event shall the fines, costs, and surcharges imposed for a single violation exceed $2,650.00.
