The employee organization selected in a secret ballot vote by the majority of the bargaining unit members shall be recognized and certified by the City of Aurora as the sole and exclusive agent for all members of the bargaining unit unless and until recognition of such employee organization is withdrawn by a majority vote of the police officer bargaining unit members. Only an employee organization that has been certified as majority representative of the bargaining unit shall be entitled to negotiate on wages, hours, benefits and other terms and conditions of employment for the members of such unit. An employee organization able to demonstrate support, by way of petition, of at least forty percent (40%) of the appropriate bargaining unit may request and be entitled to an election for recognition. Should at least forty percent (40%) of the bargaining unit membership petition for nonrecognition of an employee organization, an election shall be held for the purpose of determining recognition or nonrecognition. The foregoing procedure for recognition shall in no way preclude employees from conferring with the City representative on matters of concern to them. (Ord. No. 78-152, § 1, 11-7-1978; Ord. No. 89-85, § 1, 11-7-1989)
